A 27-year-old Waupun man was sentenced on Friday to 10 years in prison after being convicted of first-degree reckless homicide in Fond du Lac County for delivering drugs to another Waupun man in 2023 that led to his death.
Dylan Mayne also was ordered to serve 10 years of extended supervision. He was convicted of the felony in May following a five-day jury trial.
“Too many parents have buried a child from a fentanyl overdose,” Fond du Lac District Attorney Eric Toney said. “We know prison sentences won’t end their pain, but we will continue to fight for justice on their behalf and fight to deter those from engaging in the distribution of fentanyl in the hopes of saving lives.”
At about 6 p.m. on May 17, 2023, Waupun police responded to 232 W. Franklin St. for a death investigation. Responding officers found 26-year-old Shawn Kimpel dead in the house with evidence of recent drug use. A second individual was taken by a medical helicopter to a Madison Hospital and survived.

According to the criminal complaint:
The officer on the scene was aware of past police contact with Kimpel and that he had a history involving heroin and fentanyl. The officer found phones and drug paraphernalia at the scene.
Kimpel’s roommate told authorities that Mayne and another person had visited Kimpel. Another person told police that the last time she spoke to Kimpel on Facetime on May 16, 2023, she believed the two had been with Kimpel. Another person who had been hanging out with Mayne and Kimpel had been transported by a medical helicopter after a suspected overdose that same day.
