      Meet the 2026 State Journal/WiscNews girls lacrosse All-Supernova team, which is filled with several area standouts who in the spring.

      Pierre Pauquette was a prominent part of the Métis community at Portage in the 1830s. Pauquette’s second great-granddaughter, Beverly Bailey stands in front of the Historic Indian Agency House. Her family’s history is highlighted in the museum’s “Echoes of Métis Portage: Descendant Stories” video series.

        During the 1830s, mixed Indigenous/European families or Métis constituted the resident majority at the Fox-Wisconsin portage beyond the walls of Fort Winnebago, second only to a larger seasonal Indigenous presence.
