A dream that has been around for more than 20 years is the driving force behind a new business, Shattered Glass Brewery, set to open in Beaver Dam by the end of the year.
Dan Thorp shows on Thursday were Shattered Glass Brewery will sit when completed. The site right off of Beaver Dam Lake will not only offer some great scenery for those inside the brewery but Thorp also wants to add docks for people coming in from the lake.

How to Shattered Glass got its name?
The name of Shattered Glass Brewery was almost fated.
Dan Thorp and his brother Kyle had dreams of opening up a brewery when they were younger, and had thought of the perfect name long ago, but it wasn’t until a special gift that the name behind Breaking Glass Brewery was born.
The two would go back and forth with suggestions for a home brewery, Thorp said. Although a lot of the choices were the perfect name. Breaking Glass did come up as one of the suggestions, and had some promise for the brothers, but they talked themselves out of it until the day that Dan graduated from college.
“My brother had gotten me this giant beer mug that was about two liters bit and had inscribed on it my school logo, major some things like that,” Thorp said. “It was a really nice gift.”
Thorp’s family went to one of their favorite local bars and took the boot with them.
“Him and I passed it back and forth while we reminisced on stories,” Thorp said. “I finished it and went to set it aside for a while, but when I sat it down the bottom of the mug shattered.”
