School Resource Officer Matthew Edwards was recognized as the 2026 Wisconsin Juvenile Officers Association “SRO of the Year” by the Wisconsin School Safety Coordinator Association on March 5-6. He was selected for his commitment to student engagement, school safety, and his dedication to the Beaver Dam community.
The WSSCA is made up of school safety professionals, administrators, and coordinators from school districts across Wisconsin as well as partners from law enforcement and private security. The WSSCA recognized Edwards for going above and beyond the typical duties of a school resource officer and was nominated by Beaver Dam Unified School District staff.
The role of an SRO goes beyond physical security and safety of the school – it also includes the responsibility of building strong positive relationships with students, teachers and school staff. SROs take part in encouraging our young adults to be safe, make healthy choices and wise decisions. They provide guidance and assist school staff in addressing conflicts within the student body. Edwards has excelled at accomplishing all these goals through his dedication to student engagement and interaction.
