The Sauk County Board of Supervisors passed its more than $149 million budget without any amendments on the floor Tuesday and little discussion after an hour-long public hearing, during which supporters of the Boys and Girls Club of West-Central Wisconsin asked for funding.

Eli Culbertson, of La Valle, speaks about his time enrolled in Boys and Girls Club and the draw to working with children that was inspired by the organization during a public hearing Tuesday regarding the Sauk County budget. A number of children, adults who were a part of the program as children, volunteers and supporters beseeched the county board to help the nonprofit monetarily, but supervisors did not provide funding due to an advisement by the Wisconsin Department of Justice, which stated that per state statute, the board is unable to provide funding to nonprofits outside of those that help people who have experienced domestic violence and related crimes.
