Dodge County’s Executive Committee has advanced a plan to borrow $30 million to tear down and replace the Henry Dodge Building and to borrow $7.5 million for highway improvements.
The comittee on Monday voted in favor of the proposal, which still needs the full Dodge County Board’s approval. The topic will be discussed and possibly voted on later this month. The Board is set to meet at 6 p.m. Sept. 15.
The Dodge County Board of Supervisors has been discussing the two projects for months, but Monday’s vote clarifies the projects’ cost, which could help the Board move forward with the two projects.
Architects from Venture Architects in Milwaukee have told the board in the past that the Henry Dodge Building is structurally sound, but its mechanical systems are falling apart.
The Henry Dodge Building in Juneau is structurally sound, but the mechanical systems are failing, according to Brad Kwasny, a senior project architect at Venture Architects in Milwaukee.
Before the current Clearview building was built in 2021, Clearview used the Henry Dodge Building to provide nursing and rehabilitation services. The Henry Dodge Building now houses programs such as health and human services.

Clearview is the county’s newest building and will be paid off in the early 2030s.
“I think we have the support of the Board,” Supervisor Dave Beal said. “There is a consensus anyways there seems to be support from the rest of the Board members. They all know. We have seen presentations. We know what the problems are. We know what needs to be done, and we need to move forward.”
Vehicles turn off and on Highway I, off of of Highway A, in Oak Grove on Wednesday. The section of Highway I that runs from Highway A to Highway S is one of the highway projects that will be part of county’s 25 miles of highways that will be worked on in 2027.
The executive committee also voted in favor of borrowing upto $7.5 million for about 25 miles of highway projects. Board chairman Dave Frohling said the county would draw from the loan as needed for the projects, which will be part of the highway sustainability plan.
