The Fay Robinson Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution commemorated the 140th anniversary of the Statue of Liberty with a display on Oct. 3 at the Kilbourn Public Library. Their “Illuminating Lady Liberty” display includes a creative interpretation of the Statue made of chicken wire and boxes which depict the 214 crates in which the Statue was originally delivered to the United States. In addition, the display includes facts about the history of the Statue of Liberty design, the construction, dedication on Oct. 28, 1886, and “her” symbolism. Kilbourn Public Library will continue to offer the commemorative display to its patrons throughout the month of October, during normal business hours. The United States of America was given this statue as a gift from France in honor of its centennial anniversary when the U.S. celebrated 100 years of freedom from English rule.
