JUNEAU, Wis. — Nate Minnig has been named the new highway commissioner for the Dodge County Highway Department, bringing more than 14 years of experience from within the department and a lifelong commitment to serving Dodge County communities.
Minnig began his career with Dodge County as a heavy equipment operator before serving more than 10 years as a patrol superintendent. Recently, he served as interim highway commissioner following the retirement of Brian Field in November 2025, helping oversee daily operations, infrastructure projects, and coordination efforts with local municipalities across the county.
Throughout his career with the highway department, Minnig has worked on state and county projects, partnering closely with local towns and villages for communication and coordination. His experience spans all aspects of highway operations, including road construction, maintenance, project coordination and collaboration between county staff, contractors and the public.
Prior to joining Dodge County, Minnig spent eight years in the private sector with Ptaschinski Construction, where he held a variety of hands-on roles that provided extensive experience in road building and infrastructure work from the ground up.
Minnig’s appointment marks a new chapter for the highway department as Dodge County continues balancing long-term infrastructure needs with responsible stewardship of taxpayer dollars. Having worked in nearly every level of highway operations, Minnig brings both field experience and a practical understanding of the day-to-day concerns residents have regarding road conditions, maintenance priorities and project delivery.
“Nate understands this department from the ground up because he has spent years working alongside crews and coordinating directly with local officials and residents,” said Cameron Clapper, Dodge County administrator. “He brings a strong work ethic, practical experience, and a forward-looking approach focused on communication, efficiency and delivering the best possible value for taxpayers while continuing to improve our county infrastructure.”
A lifelong Dodge County resident, Minnig said he is proud to continue serving the community he calls home. He and his wife have three children who keep them busy with sports and activities. Outside of work, he enjoys spending time outdoors and helping on the family farm.
