The City’s contractor, Forest Landscape and Construction, Inc., has begun the W School Street Reconstruction Project during the week of June 1, 2026. Work by other utility contractors is also going to be occurring in this corridor. The project is anticipated to be finished in the middle of October. The project area – S Ludington Street to Hibbard Street – will be closed to thru traffic for the duration of the project. The contractor will make every effort to provide residents with access to their homes. Emergency service access is also required to be provided 24/7. Notices will be provided to properties in the project area throughout the project duration with additional information.
The contractor’s working hours will be 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday.
During the project, the contractor will be replacing all water main and services, sanitary main and laterals, and storm sewer and structures. The road will be completely reconstructed, including new base, curb and gutter, pavement, and sidewalks. The City kindly asks residents to use caution when approaching the project area, and to avoid crossing the area on side streets, as well as parking on W School Street during the contractor's working hours. If you don’t live on W School Street, avoid driving through the work area. Enforcement of local traffic only will be done throughout the project duration. For safety, do not attempt to move any barricades set up for the project.
Additionally, the contractor will need to shut down the intersection of W School Street and S Ludington Street (STH 73) for approximately two days during this project to make the connection for the new water main and to pave new asphalt. The shutdowns will occur at two different times and are not anticipated to last full or consecutive days. There will be a posted detour and more information from the City prior to the closures on S Ludington Street. During the closures, the City asks that you please follow the detoured route.
Please understand that safety is the most important aspect of this project. Please work with us in respecting all construction signs and stay out of the construction zone if you are not a resident on the street. If you are a resident on the street, please drive at a lower speed when in the construction zone.
