VFW dedicates benches
Baraboo EMS Chief Dana Sechler admires his agency’s logo -- showing emergency workers during a rope rescue operation -- on a bench Tuesday morning after a dedication ceremony at the Baraboo municipal building. The bench was donated by the Greenwood Memorial VFW Post 987 and Auxiliary to honor service personnel, including police, fire and EMS.
Year-end blood drive
Dorrene Martin of Baraboo donates blood Monday at the Baraboo Fire Department. Baraboo Lt. Mark Willer said the New Year's Eve blood drive was the first held at the department. Willer, who has organized blood drives at Baraboo EMS, said he wanted to hold more drives and use a larger space, which the fire department offers. He expected to net almost 40 units in donations Monday, above the 33-unit goal. "It's been amazing," he said. "I'm just ecstatic and glad this many people showed up on a holiday and in this weather."
Car vs. trees: Trees win
A car sits damaged at the trunk of two trees in a yard along the E12000 block of Highway 33 just outside of Baraboo. The one-vehicle crash occurred around 1 p.m. Wednesday, rerouting traffic for about a half-hour and causing delays for longer as emergency personnel worked at the scene during the afternoon.
