Proposed work on bridge over railroad tracks includes replacing the bridge deck, bearings, roadway approach slabs
The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) is seeking public input on a proposed maintenance project for the bridge that carries US 12/WIS 27 over the Union Pacific railroad tracks northwest of Fairchild in Eau Claire.
The public is invited to go to the project website, review information about the proposed work and submit comments by November 11, 2026.
Built in 1962, the bridge is in need of maintenance. WisDOT is proposing:
Replacing the concrete bridge deck
Maintaining existing superelevation
Removing the 9-inch curbs and parapets and then replacing with new single slope parapets
During construction, US 12/WIS 27 will be closed to through traffic. Access to properties in the work zone will be maintained, and through traffic will be detoured via US 10 and County R.
Construction currently is scheduled for 2031, but work could be advanced to 2030 if funding becomes available.
