The Thunderbirds welcome the Dodgers in a rematch of last season’s WIAA Division 2 sectional semifinals for a key midseason nonconference matchup. Baraboo entered the week 4-6 overall following convincing 10-2 and 12-4 wins over rival Portage last week before a 7-4 loss to Reedsburg on Saturday. Dodgeville suffered its first loss of the season last Friday against Platteville 4-2 to drop to 7-1 overall but has scored at least 10 runs four times.

The red-hot Warriors aim to keep their momentum rolling against a Tigers team looking to stay on the up-and-up. Waupun (11-1) has dropped just one of its first dozen games this season after winning its DeBoer Diamond Classic over the weekend, capped by a 10-6 win over Beloit Turner and Westosha Central on Saturday. Howards Grove (3-3) has shown flashes, scoring at least 10 runs three times and losing by a combined nine runs in its three losses, including a 3-1 defeat to Chilton last Friday.

The host Warriors and fellow Columbia County compatriot Poynette are set to meet some stiff competition in Portage’s annual event. Portage has gotten off to a brutal start, opening the season 1-7 with four shutout defeats, including a 6-0 loss to rival Baraboo last Thursday. The Pumas entered the week nearly perfect at 9-1 having lost their first game to Sussex Hamilton 6-5 on Saturday. The Pumas have pitched six shutouts and allowed just 10 combined runs.
