Leo J. Zant, 76, Published Aug. 23, 2008

Leo J. Zant, 76 of Baraboo, passed away on Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2008, at St. Clare Hospital. Leo was born on Sept. 26, 1931, in Mauston, the son of Joseph and Theresa (Resch) Zant. Leo was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during the Korean War. On Sept. 23, 1977, he was united in marriage to Donna Galstone in Baraboo. Leo enjoyed playing his guitar and mandolin where he was a member of a band called the "Black Denim Ramblers." He and another member of the band entertained for the residents at local nursing homes for the past several years. Leo loved the outdoors, hunting and fishing and was a member of the VFW Greenwood Memorial Post #987 and St. Paul's Lutheran Church.

He is survived by his wife Donna of Baraboo; a daughter, Vicky (Wayne) Fry of LaValle; a son, Edward Zant of Cazenovia; four grandchildren, Morgan, Shaylynn, Rebekah and Daniel; daughter-in-law, Christina Zant of Wisconsin Dells; and other relatives and friends.

Leo was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Dayle and Brian Zant; and two brothers, Edward and William Zant.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 23, 2008, at the Rago-Baldwin Funeral Home, 520 East Street, Baraboo, with Certified Lay Speaker George Burgess officiating. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Saturday from 1 p.m. until time of service. Military rites will be accorded by the VFW Greenwood Memorial Post #987. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the family.
